Peelback street furniture is a concept that was produced for Preston City Council. It consisted of a range of contemporary outdoor public seating, litter bins, bike racks, tram stops etc that would reference Preston’s heritage. It would replace the current ‘off the shelf’ designed street furniture that is currently around the city of Preston.
Each piece of furniture is formed by peeling back the surface layer of the ground to reveal Preston’s historic foundation, set out in a typographic story. A story could be revealed dependant on location or a texture, both which would be cast out of metal into the ground.
