Garmin Streetpilot C3-series

Fresh out of college and only 6 months into my career with Garmin, I was fortunate to be selected as the lead designer on the C3 project.  The C3 was Garmin's first mainstream Personal Navigation Device (PND).

Project goals:

• Clean friendly design
• Simple interface, minimal or no buttons
• Removable faceplates for customization
• Integrated adjustable mount

Project responsibilities included:

• Form development -2D sketching
• Form development -3D modeling (design patent)
• Form development -rapid prototyping
• Component placement/configuration
• Mounting solution (utility patent)
• Soft Good case design
• Work directly with Mechanical Engineering on manufacturablity of design details
• Review and present all progress with Senior Executives
• Generate 3D renderings for marketing materials
