Inspired by an afternoon spent reading under a group of trees. This lighting
concept is composed of variously sized panels suspended from the wall or
ceiling similarly to a Calder mobile. The lightweight panels move with air currents,
redistributing and changing the character of the light much like the leaves of
those trees. I imagine this idea working in many scales. An intimate restaurant
where the light shifts slowly, a club where the energy of the patrons directly
influences their environment, or a large public space. Eventually I imagine OLED
technology to provide the opportunity for a more dynamic experience through the
addition of colorfully lit panels, which opens the door to images and video on the
dynamic, undulating surfaces.
