The design for most slatted chairs calls for wood that simply sits on top of a metal frame. My solution to this disconnect was to tenon each slat into a frame that sandwiches the wood between the aluminum. The result is an elegant profile that showcases this integration of materials. The repetition of ash end-grain against the black anodized aluminum provides a rhythm and movement through the simple curves of Flex Chair.
